Abstract

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) continue to pose complex challenges for site remediation due to their persistence, mobility, and resistance to conventional treatment methods—particularly in water matrices with high organic content. In this webinar, we present a detailed case study of a full-scale PFAS remediation project at an operating facility in Western Canada, impacted by a aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) release. The project involved the treatment of PFAS-impacted water containing short-chain compounds (6:2 FTS, PFHxA, PFPeA), using a combination of pre-treatment and advanced adsorptive media.

We will walk through the progression from bench-scale treatability testing to full-scale implementation, outlining the selection process for which treatment technology to use, system design, and full-scale implementation. Key topics will include media performance under high-DOC conditions, operational strategies for recirculation treatment, and management of contaminated sludge via dredging, dewatering, stabilization, and disposal. Attendees will gain practical insight into how science-driven, adaptive treatment strategies can be successfully applied to real-world PFAS challenges.
