VEI Dewatering and Water Treatment Division

As announced last month, Vertex Environmental Inc., rebranding to VEI Contracting Inc., has been busy expanding to offer temporary groundwater control and dewatering services through our new VEI Dewatering & Water Treatment Division. Significant investments in this division have been made over the past few years including the procurement of specialized installation and pumping equipment and system components. VEI Contracting, is also pleased to introduce new staff, each with 10 to over 25 years of experience, working on temporary groundwater control projects throughout Ontario. VEI Dewatering is looking forward to Josh Douma (the “Mystery Man” in our May newsletter!), Mark Kassel and Chris Lesperance using their expertise and experience to assist clients with temporary groundwater control and discharge issues on development and infrastructure projects, including vacuum wellpoint, eductor and deep well pumping systems, sediment and contaminant discharge control and treatment as well as assistance with the related approval processes.

Josh Douma, P.Eng. Dewatering Division Manager. Josh has over 25 years of experience related to the design, installation and management of hundreds of temporary groundwater control and dewatering systems on urban development and civil infrastructure projects throughout Ontario and across Canada. Josh enjoys spending his free time with his wife and four children exploring the outdoors, finding new fishing spots and watching their many soccer games, hockey games and track meets.

Mark Kassel, B.Sc., C.E.T., Dewatering Senior Project Manager. Mark has more than 10 years of experience related to the design, installation and project management of temporary groundwater control and dewatering systems on sites across Ontario. Mark and his wife keep busy with their two young daughters and enjoy spending time swimming, skiing and in the outdoors in Ontario’s near north.

Chris Lesperance, Lead Field Technician. As a licensed well technician in the Province of Ontario, Chris has over 15 years of experience leading and supervising the installation of hundreds of temporary groundwater control and dewatering systems across Ontario. Chris and his wife enjoy traveling, gardening and canoeing and stay actively involved in the humane society with a passion for caring for animals.

As a licensed well contractor in the Province of Ontario staffed by licensed well technicians, the newly formed VEI Dewatering looks forward to bringing industry-leading, hands-on experience, expertise and intuition, as well as a thorough understanding of temporary groundwater control methods and applications to build relationships with clients and provide cost-effective and practical solutions for groundwater-related issues on their projects. The team at VEI Dewatering understands the importance of recognizing groundwater-related issues on projects early in the design and construction process and seeks to work with clients to identify and provide solutions that will serve the client’s best interest.
